How much will the Aussie 12 days of Christmas set you back?

By Raelene Berryman - December 7, 2017

Inspired by our friends at Staples Rodway in New Zealand, the accountants at Pitcher Partners Sydney wanted to break down the cost of the Aussie 12 days of Christmas.

With the price tag of $4,150.46 calculated, this bundle of Christmas gifts doesn’t come cheap but will provide plenty of adventure, food and memories over the holiday season.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…

One sunset at Uluru:

Created over 600 million years ago, Uluru is one of Australia’s most famous natural landmarks. While significantly more expensive than your usual Christmas gift, witnessing a sunset over Uluru is a must do experience.

Cost – $1,022 for an overnight stay in Uluru for one person, including:

  • $239 flight Sydney to Uluru
  • $109 return flight Uluru to Sydney
  • $580 for one nights accommodation including breakfast and airport transfer at Ayers Rock Resort
  • $94 per person Half Day Uluru Sunset tour, including a $25 national park fee

Two camel rides on Cable Beach:

Experience 22km of pure white sand and crystal clear blue water at Cable Beach by camel back. Broome Camel Safaris offers an unforgettable adventure, and why not make it more memorable by doing it at sunset.

Cost – $2,234.84 for minimum two night stay in Broome for two people, including:

  • $888.42 flight Sydney to Broome (adult single fare $444.21)
  • $888.42 return flight Broome to Sydney (adult single fare $444.21)
  • $338 for two nights minimum stay at Mantra Frangipani
  • $30 taxi from Broome Airport to Mantra Frangipani
  • $90.00 adult Sunset Camel Tour ticket, including free pair of freshwater pearl earrings from local designer Dahlia Designs – bonus!

Three Nemos at the aquarium:

Based on the Disney movie Finding Nemo, “Nemo” the clownfish is practically an Australian icon with the movie set in various Australian locations including the Great Barrier Reef and Sydney Harbour. To get up close and personal, the easiest way to find Nemo is by visiting SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. Located in Darling Harbour you and the family can enjoy “finding Nemos” as well as spending time with over 12,000 animals such as sharks, dugongs, turtles, penguins and more.

Cost – $42 for adult ticket to SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium

Four drinks at the Cricket:

Pitcher Partners are proud supporters of Cricket NSW, so we can’t go past suggesting a day out at the family friendly KFC Big Bash League this summer. And while you do, why not line up with the crowds and grab a few (four to be exact) drinks from the bar.

Cost – $70.50 approx for a family of four, including:

  • $42.50 family pass
  • $28 for four drinks

Five lazy lizards:

The epitome of laziness is five lizards taking in the Australian sunshine. Rather than just trying to spy them in your backyard you can find them at the Australian Reptile Park, a popular Sydney attraction, with hands on zoo experiences and loads of animal interaction and wildlife shows.

Cost  $179.20 for day visit for family (2 adults, 2 children), including:

  • $99 family pass to the park
  • $46.20 for a return train ticket from Sydney City to Gosford ($7.70 capped daily fee for child and $15.40 capped daily fee for adult)
  • $34 Uber fares (estimated $17 from Gosford Station to Australian Reptile Park and another $17 on return trip)

Six lamingtons from Coles:

Do we really need to explain what a lamington is? For those of you that are from out of town it is an Australian sweet food icon made of sponge cake, dipped in chocolate and covered in fine desiccated coconut. No celebration is complete without a six pack of Lamingtons. Easily found in most bakeries and supermarkets, including Coles.

Cost  $2.50 for a six pack of lamingtons from Coles

Seven friends doing the Bondi to Coogee walk:

The classic Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk is one of Sydney's most picturesque experiences, covering six kilometres of coastline through Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Enjoy the magnificent views from Bondi to Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly and Coogee, all free of charge. What better way to get fit, while enjoying the view and catching up on the latest news.

Cost – Free

Eight vegemite sandwiches:

Most Australian’s at one time or other would have had a vegemite sandwich in their lunchbox at school, or traded their home made lunch for their friend’s vegemite sandwich. A traditional vegemite sandwich consists of two slices of buttered bread and vegemite. The cost may be about $10, but the memories are priceless.

Cost  $9.62 for eight sandwiches, including:

  • $3.00 loaf of Tip Top bread
  • $3.63 150g jar of Vegemite
  • $2.99 Flora butter

Nine wine tasting glasses of Hunter Valley Wine:

The Hunter Valley, New South Wales is renowned for its contribution to the history of Australian wines. Hunter Valley Wine Tasting Tours operates daily, specialising in small personal wine tours to the oldest winery region in Australia. Travelling in luxury you will enjoy wine tasting at four different wineries, lunch at Hunter Resort’s Matilda Bay Brewhouse Café, followed by a cheese tasting and finishing with a visit to the local Hunter Chocolate Shop. Enjoy responsibly.

Cost  $105 for adult ticket

Ten surfs at Manly:

Australia is famous for its first class waves, so much so we’d say they are part of the country’s DNA. If you are a beginner, you could probably do with some assistance. Situated on the Northern Beaches, Manly Beach is world famous and is as laid back and Australian as it gets. Manly Surf School runs classes every day for those that want to learn to surf at this iconic beach, catering to all levels of ability, fitness and age.

Cost  $397.80 for ten Surf Lessons

  • $7.80 single adult ticket ferry ride to Manly
  • $390 for ten surf lessons, purchased as a bulk buy

Eleven guests taking photos with koalas:

Nothing compares to your first koala encounter. So grab a group of friends and head to Featherdale Wildlife Park. Located on the way to the Blue Mountains, its home to one of Australia’s best collection of native wildlife. With a number of unique wildlife experiences, Featherdale Wildlife Park offers you the chance to touch a koala and also have your photo taken by an expert photographer.

Cost  $57 for personal koala encounter, including:

  • $32 adult admission ticket to the park
  • $25 personal koala encounter which includes the opportunity to meet and pet a fluffy koala, talk to the experienced koala keepers and a souvenir photo pack.

Twelve Bunnings sausage sandwiches:

A Bunnings sausage sizzle is an Australian institution, no dash to the hardware store on a Saturday morning is complete without one. Enjoyed by thousands of customers a week, this sausage sizzle is a popular fundraising opportunity for local community groups, schools and sports clubs. So not only are you satisfying that breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea hunger but you’re also helping out a local group – win win.

Cost  $30 for 12 Bunnings sausage in bread, at $2.50 each

Whether you pick one of the experiences, or go for the full 12, we hope you are able to enjoy a taste of the Aussie Christmas this year.

Pitcher Partners Sydney wishes you and your loved ones a safe and happy festive season.

Please note the above costings are estimates only and prices may vary at time of purchase.
